You can thank me by getting yourself a pair of these eco-friendly leggings.

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, BuzzFeed may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

All sizes in this post are listed in women’s.

One of the few activities that brings me joy during quarantine (in addition to my weekly walk to pick up desserts at my favorite French-Japanese bakery and my daily Animal Crossing: New Horizons binge) is working out — which is weird because prior to voluntarily not leaving my house for months, exercising was…not something I would choose to do.

To celebrate my newly formed good habit, I treated myself to a new pair of Girlfriend Collective leggings (the Compressive High-Rise ICYWW) because 1. I don’t really like working out in shorts and 2. self-care y’all!

If you’re not already getting Instagram ads for Girlfriend, lemme get you up to speed. They’re a POC-owned activewear brand with super cozy basics and a really inclusive size range.

Right off the bat, I was impressed by how buttery soft these leggings were. They’re super stretchy (definitely squat-proof!) and supportive without being constricting. And at $68, they’re a total steal given how high-quality they are.

Girlfriend recommends sizing down for a more compressive fit so I went with an XS. I’d be interested to compare the fit of the S but TBH I’m perfectly happy with the leggings as they are. I also opted for the 23 3/4-inch inseam, which I thought I would hate. Initially I wanted them to hit at the ankle but I knew the 28 1/2-inch inseam was definitely going to be too long on my short legs. In the end I’ve grown to like the shorter inseam. It makes my legs look a bit longer, which I always appreciate.

I usually wear them for low-impact workouts, like Pilates and yoga (and lounging on the couch), but they didn’t let me down during high-impact HIIT cardio classes either. The material is really breathable so even though I’m sweating a lot during my workouts, the leggings don’t get swampy.

I’m obviously channeling my Victoria Beckham here! And as you can tell, the leggings offer a lot of flexibility. I’m not a huge fan of wearing leggings in public — no judgment to those of y’all who are! — but when I do, these leggings are really excellent at hiding panty lines. IDK what kinda witchcraft was involved (esp. because every other pair of leggings I’ve owned has made my panty lines super noticeable unless I was wearing seamless undies) but I’m not complaining!

They’re machine-washable and still look brand-new (no pilling here!). In fact, I liked them so much that I ended up getting a second pair to give the other ones a break.

^ Me after an obé Fitness class kicked my butt. I bought the lemon leggings in the same size (XS and 23 3/4-inch inseam) but they’re a little bit too tight. I’m not sure if it’s the dye or if the limited-edition colors are made from a slightly different fabric so I’d recommend going with your normal size instead of sizing down if you choose one of the new colors.

Also! You probably don’t want to wear dark underwear with these if you’re out in public as the yellow is a bit see-through. I’m wearing my neon orange Parade undies in this photo and as you can tell lighter colors are fine. (I also have coral-colored underwear that’s a similar hue to the sports bra that I’m wearing and that was also OK to wear with the yellow leggings.)

Even if you don’t care at all about the performance aspect of these leggings, Girlfriend’s commitment to sustainable, transparent, and eco-friendly production will make you feel good about snagging your own pair.

The Compressive leggings and bras are made with recycled bottles (25 in the leggings and 11 in the bras) that would’ve otherwise ended up in a landfill, as well as recycled polyester and spandex. They also guarantee fair wages, safe work conditions, and no forced or child labor at their factories. (Check out their About page to learn more about their production and business practices.)

Now that I’ve talked your ear off about all the reasons I love them, check out all the other rave reviews they get.

Girlfriend Collective

“I really love these leggings. They’re high-rise, opaque, and somehow simultaneously okay in warm AND cold weather? I find myself reaching for them all the time, whether it is to work out (I do a lot of running + spinning) or to go for a drive to run an errand. With COVID, I’m washing them all the time so I can wear them throughout my work day. I’m also so surprised with how reasonably priced they are because I’ve become so used to sucking it up and paying $100+ for quality leggings. Add that to Girlfriend’s sustainable mission, and there is no doubt that I will definitely buy more and slowly replace my old pilling leggings from other companies.” —Nikita H.

“I only buy leggings from two brands and Girlfriend is the main one. Great quality, and great message. It feels nice to support this company while also feeling confident i’m getting a good product.” —Madeline S.

“Material. Color. Fit. Price. Mission. These really have it all. Please take my money.” —Aaliyah D.

If you are a connoisseur of comfy, you should 1,000% try these leggings. Conversely, if you don’t love/appreciate true, unrelenting, absolute comfort and performance, then these leggings aren’t for you. (OK, TBH these leggings are still for you!) And they’re constantly selling out so you should buy them while you can.

Warner Bros. Television
