19 Popular Songs From This Year That People Actually Hated

We asked the BuzzFeed Community what popular song from 2019 they actually hated, and here’s what they said:

Note: Not every song on this list was released this year, but every song was made ~popular~ in 2019!

1.

“High Hopes” – Panic! at the Disco

Fueled by Ramen

“I’m a huge Panic! fan, but the song is just really annoying to me. It doesn’t even really sound like a song Brendon Urie would agree to sing, and I keep waiting for him to come out and say it was all a prank. I don’t have anything against pop music, but this song is just so bubblegum and Brendon is so not bubblegum. Also, the whole Pete Buttigieg campaign dance has made the song even more cringey to me.”

2.

“Señorita” – Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello

Island

“‘Señorita’ was such a let down, and I can’t stand listening to it. From the way people were obsessing over it, I expected a really fun, sexy song. Instead, it ended up being a generic sounding vocal showcase that anyone could’ve sang. I didn’t even hear any passion or chemistry between the artists. It’s just a very ‘blah’ song.”

3.

“Old Town Road” – Lil Nas X feat. Billy Ray Cyrus

Columbia

“I think Lil Nas X seems like such a wonderful person and I’m happy for the success he has found, but I just don’t get why that song got so huge.”

4.

“break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored” – Ariana Grande

MXM Studios

“I wasn’t ever impressed by the hook or the backtrack of this song. It was too one-note, and it wasn’t worth the airtime it got. Also, I don’t like the premise. I’m just not the kind of person who can get behind the concept of ruining another girl’s relationship for my own selfish reasons.”

5.

“Boy with Luv” – BTS feat. Halsey

Big Hit

“Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE BTS. However, ‘Boy With Luv’ felt pretty generic to me. Their other songs like ‘Dionysus’ and ‘Persona’ are bangers. But, ‘Boy With Luv’ feels like any other pop song, and it’s nothing you haven’t heard before.”

6.

“bad guy” – Billie Eilish

Interscope

“I think if there’s too much hype around an artist it can negatively impact my experience with a song. I just can’t get myself to enjoy ‘bad guy.’ Billie Eilish is actually a cool person and I like her other music, but this song is so overrated.”

7.

“Don’t Call Me Angel” – Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, and Lana Del Rey

Republic

“In terms of music, ‘Don’t Call Me Angel’ was the biggest disappointment of 2019. You’d think that three amazing singers would make an amazing song, but it’s actually quite the opposite. The song is messy and isn’t anything memorable. The song had so much potential but turned out to be horrible.”

8.

“Cool” – The Jonas Brothers

Republic

“I’ve been a fan of them since I was 14 and was PUMPED to hear they’d be releasing new music. I like the rest of the album but this song just ain’t it. It’s like a discount version of ‘Sucker,’ with super specific pop culture references that won’t age well.”

9.

“I Don’t Care” – Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber

Atlantic UK

“That song is so boring and cliche, it’s just awful! I usually like at least some of Ed Sheeran’s songs but this one was not it.”

10.

“Truth Hurts” – Lizzo

Atlantic

“It’s so repetitive and IMMENSELY overplayed. The message and confidence of it is great and all, but I seriously cannot listen to this song anymore!!!!!”

11.

“HIGHEST IN THE ROOM” – Travis Scott

Epic

“I was very excited to hear ‘HIGHEST IN THE ROOM’ when I heard he was dropping it, but then when it was released, I absolutely hated it. I hate the echo of his voice throughout the entire song and the instrumental is so dull. It had so much potential too. Travis Scott just sounds so bored throughout the song.”

12.

“Sucker” – The Jonas Brothers

Republic

“I’m not sure if it’s the beat or the rhythm, but I am not a fan. The other songs on the album are so much better.”

“Never Really Over” – Katy Perry

Capitol

“I think the song flows weird and isn’t all that catchy or great. I miss Katy Perry’s old stuff.”

alexandriab9703

14.

“Spirit” – Beyoncé

Disney

“I got really excited when she was cast in The Lion King, but that song was piss poor. It totally lacked the power and heart of the original soundtrack.”

beckya47cf724e5

15.

“How Do You Sleep” – Sam Smith

Capitol

“He’s such a talented musician, but I feel like his newer songs are so generic and boring. I think he could’ve done much better.”

l49ca8a44c

16.

“Panini” – Lil Nas X

Columbia

“Honestly, I have to say ‘Panini.’ I just don’t get it? It has no meaning and is full of ‘in your face’ electro bass beats. Not my thing.”

graciepoo1335

17.

“Memories” – Maroon 5

Interscope

“They’ve had some great songs in the past. When I have the radio on and I hear Adam Levine’s voice start to sing this song I have to change it immediately.”

jenmor6161

18.

“Sweet but Psycho” – Ava Max

Atlantic

“‘Sweet but Psycho’ was so annoying. It made no sense and was too overplayed. Not to mention the song is incredibly stigmatizing of mental illness!”

unicornart

19.

And “ME!” – Taylor Swift feat. Brendon Urie

Republic

“I’m a huge Taylor Swift fan but I don’t like ‘Me.’ She shouldn’t have even put it on the album, IMHO. She had so many other songs on Lover that could’ve been lead singles but for some reason she chose this one.”
