Jamie Lee Curtis reunites with Lindsay Lohan, teases ‘Freaky Friday 2’

Body-swapping duo Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan have reunited to swap smiles and tease their long-awaited Freaky Friday sequel — which has officially brought on Mindy Kaling and Emma Thompson’s Late Night helmer Nisha Ganatra as its director, Entertainment Weekly has confirmed.

The on screen mother-daughter duo — who previously fronted Disney’s beloved 2003 adaptation of the body-switching comedy — appeared together Friday on Curtis’ Instagram in a sweet photo reunion that also previewed a potential continuation of the first movie.

The Hollywood Reporter broke news of Ganatra directing on Friday, and further indicated that the film will shoot this summer in Los Angeles. EW has reached out to representatives for Disney, Curtis, and Lohan for more information.

“DUH! FFDEUX!” Curtis wrote in the photo’s caption, while also tagging official accounts for Disney and its production arm.

In addition to directing Kaling and Thompson in the 2019 Sundance hit Late Night , Ganatra directed Tracee Ellis Ross and Dakota Johnson in the 2020 comedy The Hight Note, as well as recent episodes of And Just Like That... and Welcome to Chippendales on TV.

Curtis has long spoken about her desire to re-team with Lohan for a Freaky Friday sequel. The Oscar-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once star even told Entertainment Weekly last year during an interview for her Haunted Mansion movie that the WGA strikes impacted script development.

“Oh, it’ll happen. For sure. Oh, for sure. There’s no question,” Curtis said at the time, and confirmed that the team had an idea of where they’d like the story to go in another film.

“Yes, except stories require writers, and right now there are no writers because they’re all fighting for their lives, for their creative lives, for their emotional lives, and for their financial lives,” she explained. “We’re in the middle of a contract dispute. And so, until those writers get paid correctly and protected by the producers that make billions off of them, we will not be able to tell you any more about the Freaky Friday sequel, except that it is happening.”

Director Mark Waters‘ Freaky Friday movie — about a supernatural force that causes a mother and daughter to inhabit each other’s bodies over the course of several fateful days — became an instant fan-favorite title among the filmographies of both Curtis and Lohan, grossing over $160 million at the global box office while further launching Lohan to teen superstardom.
